Black lagoon season 1 rocket launcher
I love action shows that although not really deep, deliver with excitement and consistency. The relationship between them is more blatant (and less projected as some people say) between Lir and Vincent. Now, I'm thinking how they'll end up together. (Not like Ergo Proxy who already had Speed Grapher moments in the second episode.)

and hopefully up to episode 13 if it is a 26-episode show. Thus, now, although I am really tempted to explode like a fanboy and say hooray to this show, I'm expecting consistent animation by episode two. and I hope it doesn't disappoint like Ergo Proxy did IMO. I really hope that this show maintains its quality for the next episodes or at least for the first half of the show. The action is top-notch there is no fanservice at all, not to mention the story (or what fragments of it) really is inviting. I'm saddened that I just watched this show recently. I guess they really were saved by a fairy godmother with a magic wand! However I guess that's why the author is not a scientist and draws manga for a living. I really can't imagine how it could have hit the helicopter or are my physics just seem all wrong? They are ment to go into the water and not to fly through the air to shot down aircraft!

This suggests that even these torpedo aren't travelling at any great speed and so their flight path would be pretty poor. PT boat had a designed speed of 41 knots (76 km/h) however when the boat leaves the water and rides up over the steep hull of the sunken ship it will slow down very rapidly.Įven a torpedo expelled from tubes by compressed air or an explosive charge had guide stud on the torpedo rides to "prevents the torpedo from dropping downward before the tail has cleared the main barrel". Which does seem to suggest that the PT-boat torpedoes are just dropped torpedos over the side. PT boats launch torpedoes from racks at the sides of the boat. There are two principal ways to launch a torpedo- by firing it from a tube, or by dropping it from a rack. However how did it get to the helicopter in the first place? stud guides were exposed to nearly 190 pounds of pressure from the contact and resulting deceleration. When a 3,000-pound torpedo travelling at 46 knots struck the hull of a ship.the initial force of deceleration equalled approximately 500 times the force of gravity. I think it is heavy enough to take out the helicopter. There is no way I would want to be anywhere near 60 year old explosives! Contact-fused, so I'm a little surprised that it didn't go off on impact with the helicopter - perhaps the cockpit armour glass didn't provide enough resistance to trigger the fuse? Ouch! Antique WWII-vintage straight-runners, but reliable and very nasty (just ask ARA General Belgrano).

Either way, it's not really something worth worrying about - if the Hind pilots in episode 2 hadn't been macho idiots, the torpedo wouldn't have posed the remotest threat to them. To go along with the 19th century cannonball analogy, you'd head for cover and then call counterbattery fire on the cannon (it can't move easily) or smoke it off and flank or bypass it (it needs line-of-sight and can't traverse quickly), instead of wrapping yourself in massive head-to-toe armour and slugging it out with the enemy gunners.Ī helicopter designer would probably assume that a large, heavy mass striking the helo would either be a) terrain, or b) a few dozen kilos of missile impacting at several times the speed of sound. Well, the thing about the modern battlefield is that armour really can't keep up with the destructive power of weapons any more - so the emphasis tends to be on weapons and tactics that allow you to minimise your chances of getting hit, with armour being only a secondary means of protection. Glass from a chopper is just not designed to survive against collision with a heavy mass. much, much better not to be hit in the first place.Īll this discussion reminds me about how, no matter how advanced it is, the modern day body-armour/flak-jacket still can't protect the wearer against a direct hit from a 19th century cannonball. Being able to withstand 20mm or 23mm hits is a moot issue if your main enemy AD threat consists of 2S6s or Stormer/Starstreak vehicles - who needs a torpedo? Say hello to Mr.

Even for 12.7mm, there's a difference between plain ball and AP, or the new Raufoss MP ammo.Īpache doesn't need to be as well-protected as Hind it's much more manoeuvrable and (especially in the Longbow variant) better able to take advantage of terrain cover. 23mm HE and 23mm SAPHE are quite different matters from an armour-piercing point of view the same applies to 30mm HE vs. Testing's great, but the devil is always in the details.
